Every couple has a unique journey.
In assisted reproduction, there is no single model. Each couple brings their own dreams, fears, doubts, and plans. Therefore, the first step is always to listen attentively. To understand the couple's constitution, their desires, their possibilities—and, based on that, to build a tailor-made treatment plan.
What are the main routes?
• Intrauterine insemination
It is one of the simplest and most accessible options for female couples. It uses semen from an anonymous donor, selected with great care and safety, and this semen is introduced into the uterus of the partner who will become pregnant.
• In vitro fertilization (IVF)
In IVF, eggs are fertilized in a laboratory with sperm from a donor. Then, the embryo is transferred to the uterus. This technique can be used by both female and male couples (in the latter case, with the support of a surrogate mother).
• ROPA Method
This is one of the most exciting paths for female couples who wish to share motherhood. ROPA stands for "Recipient of Eggs from the Partner": one partner donates the eggs, and the other carries the pregnancy in her uterus. Thus, both participate actively—one genetically, the other gestationally.
Singer Ludmilla and her partner Brunna Gonçalves, for example, chose this method to build their family. And what once seemed distant for so many women is now becoming an increasingly possible reality.
• Surrogate uterus
This is the recommended option for male couples. In this case, it is necessary to have a woman who agrees to carry the baby voluntarily, which we call surrogacy. Brazilian law allows for this possibility, provided that ethical and well-defined rules are followed.
• Gamete and embryo donation
There is also the possibility of using donated eggs or embryos, depending on the couple's reproductive status. All procedures follow strict guidelines from the Federal Council of Medicine, with ethical criteria, safety standards, and absolute confidentiality.
Legal aspects in Brazil
Many people still have doubts about the rights of same-sex couples. But it's important to reiterate: you have equal rights. The registration of children with dual maternity or paternity is legally recognized, without the need for additional legal proceedings. The use of donated gametes, surrogacy, and all procedures follow clear regulations that guarantee legal and ethical security.
And what about the emotional impact of all this?
The decision to have children is, in itself, an intense experience. In the case of same-sex couples, it can also be accompanied by fears, judgments, or insecurities. Therefore, in addition to all the medical support, I always advise that the couple also have emotional support—whether with psychologists, support groups, or with whomever they feel welcomed.
Experiencing this journey with affection, listening, and security makes all the difference.
I'm here to help you.
With each couple that comes to my office, I see a new chapter unfold. And it's a privilege to be able to accompany them on this journey with respect, care, and support. If this dream is also part of your plans, know that you are not alone.
We can talk, ask questions, and plan the path calmly and clearly. It will be a pleasure to walk this path with you.
